Chorley v Pwllheli RFC

Pre Season Friendly

Saturday 13th August Chorley RUFC welcomed touring side Pwllheli RFC to the Brookfields Ground for the first pre-season match of the 2022/23 season.

The fixture was arranged by Club Captail Gwilym Jones and Club Secretary Owen Williams whom represented the Welsh side throughout their junior days.

Match day was a hot affair, with pitch side temperatures exceeding 34°C! Due to the conditions the game was broken down into four 15 minute periods to facilitate water breaks and player/tactical changes.

Chorley RUFC had a squad of 18 players with a made up of 14 forwards and 4 backs.

Chorley RUFC won the toss and decided to kick, with the sun on their backs. Pwllheli RFC took control of the ball direct from the kick off under high pressure from Chorley's defensive line, and worked through a number of phases. Chorley was eventually penalised for a break down infringement from which Pwllheli kicked to touch for an attacking line out. Chorley managed to disrupt the lineout with the ball landing on their side, however Pwllheli were sharper to react and recovered the ball. With quick hands and line speed Pwllheli spun the ball out to the opposite flank and dotted down for the opening try.

It was clear from this opening try that the forward heavy line, in the extreme heat would have a tough day on their hands to contain the
